Rapid Fire Photography Critique #018
It is that time again for another Rapid Fire Critique. I really enjoy doing these critiques as I think they not only help the photographer but help others to look at their work in a different way.
I am sure people wonder how I select a set, do I select it based on someone having a Nikon camera, NO. I take a look at the ten photos in the set and see if there are enough images for me to talk about and add value more than I like it, its great, i dont like it.
There are so many e mails that come in that I hope I can get to all of them. If you would like to submit your 10 best images please send them to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com. Keep in mind I do get a lot so please only e mail once and if I do not get to your set please do not take it personally.

Adam joins me again for the AdoramaPix Rapid Fire Critique.
What you will see in this set are a lot of images that really have potential. Remember these critiques are not meant to be mean or harmful they are meant to point things out in the photos that might help take them to the next level.
I think this photographer is very very close on most of these images and with a few corrections will be capturing great images.
If you would like to submit your ten best images please send them to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com

Rapid Fire Photo Critique #16
For this weeks Rapid Fire Critique I asked Adam to join me. I really liked having someone else in on the critique to bounce thoughts and ideas off of.
It is always nice to have hear how someone else sees a certain image that you think is strong or not strong.
What did you think of having us both in on this, did you enjoy it more than normal?

It has been a few weeks since I posted a Rapid Fire Critique. I came across this set of images this week when I was going through the hundreds of e mails that are in the FroKnowsPhoto@Gmail.com email box.
I selected this set because I felt that the photographer is right on par and that a few pointers would take her to the next level.
Check out the video below as I think there are some strong nuggets in there for everyone.
If you would like to submit your best 10 images please send them to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com with the subject line of AdoramaPix Rapid Fire Critique.

For this weeks Rapid Fire Critique we have a critique of a photographer all the way from India by the name of Sagar N Iyer. Sagar submitted his 10 images to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com via a Flickr Link.
What I loved about the first few images were the large scenes that he captured. There is something to be said when you can capture wide angle shots with a ton of detail. I know I personally strive to capture as much detail in my images when shooting wider.
Not only did Sagar have some amazing wide angle shots but he amazing animal photos and close up shots. From the 10 images you can get a feel that Sagar is a well rounded photographer.
I also want to point out at the end of this video I did a slight rant which I may expand on in the future about commenting on peoples work. There seems to be a major issue with comments people leave on a page like flickr. If someone doesn’t like something they say I don’t like this image. Or if they like something they say great capture bla bla bla. This really needs to change, you can not be afraid to say what you think about an image whether you like it or not. If you like an image go into reasons why you like it, pull out different parts of the images and say something like “I love how you captured the essence of the eyes of your subject, they really make the images”. Or if you don’t like it find the positives while giving corrective criticism. “This image is very close to being spot on but I find that cutting off the subjects fingers takes away from the overall quality of the image. In the future try not to cut off important pieces to the subject”.

This week in the FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com email box I came across Patrick Krupa’s portfolio set that he sent in. What I tend to do is give a quick once over of the images to see that I will be able to give constructive criticism. In this set there were definitely images that stood out and a few that were ripe for corrective criticism. I really like the direction of most of these images, there is a clear idea that Patrick is going for and he did a great job capturing it.
This was a fun set to talk about and give some feedback where I could. As you will see in the video the image below stood out to me as one of my favorites. I would actually love to have a print of this to hang on my wall it is that good. In the meantime, if you would like to submit your best 10 images or photo story for a Rapid Fire Critique please send it to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com. Keep in mind that I get a couple hundred of these a week so I may not get to everyone’s right away.
Congratulations to Patrick on getting some really amazing images. He will be getting a FREE AdoramaPix.com hardback book to create a portfolio!!!!

This weeks Critique brings us this photo story from a day of shooting races on the water. The photographer was shooting with a Canon 40d and 80-400 lens.
Check out his selection of the 10 best images and what my thoughts were on his images and some tips for taking them a few other directions.
Remember what I said in this video. I said if you feel that a creative “crop” will help or save an image than by all means go for it. It is your photo and whatever you think will make it better is up to you. That doesn’t mean that I will crop my own personal work it just means sometimes there are images where a creative crop would save it.
Don’t be afraid to go black and white if the color is pretty subdued. Sometimes going black and white will give your images even more interest than if it were in color.
If you would like to send in your images for the AdoramaPix Rapid Fire Critique send them to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com with the subject line AdoramaPix Rapid Fire Critique.

This weeks Rapid Fire Critique brings us our first Photo Story. I love photo stories, I love seeing the progression of a day in images that all together tell a story.
I critiques this one a little different as I had to take each image and think how it fits into the over all photo story.
If you would like to send in a link to your Flickr with a photo story or your best 10 images please send them to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com

This is the first week where I did the Rapid Fire Critique without the actual photographer being on the skype line with me. Like i said in the video you will not always be able to defend or explain your work to people who are viewing it.
The majority of the the time people will make up their own judgements about your work some of which may be right but others will assume things that could not be further than the truth.
If you are sending in a portfolio of work to a photo editor you have to let the work speak for itself. In this set of images there are about 7 killer, solid images that stand on their own.
This is what I look for in images, can they stand on their own, are they composed well and are they exposed well. I also look to see if the image tells a story. Story telling in images is a major thing for me, i want to capture images that when people see them they feel the emotion behind it.
Enjoy this rapid fire critique below.

A few weeks back Gene took part in a Rapid Fire Skype call and I really thought we should do a Rapid Fire Critique as well. Gene has only been shooting for about 4 months with his Nikon D3100, kit lens and a few other random pieces of glass.
Gene is really seeing the image well which by now you know I stress upfront more than anything else. If you see the image than I don’t care if your shooting in Auto to capture it. Seeing and composing is way more important when you are starting than getting your exposure spot on. I know that may sound strange but you will learn how to make changes to your exposure as time goes on.
There are a few Live Music shots in this set along with wedding shots and some other random offerings. But more importantly at the end Gene asked me a killer question about getting into concerts. I decided to turn that question into a BONUS VIDEO for people who are on the EMAIL LIST.
The Bonus video is 15 min of me just dumping info out of my head, giving different scenarios, different ideas and alternative ways of getting into shows. A lot of this information will one day end up in a book about concert photography that will go into way more detail. I had to cut myself off from giving more killer information and than still continued to give out more after that.
HOW YOU GET THE PASSWORD FOR THE BONUS VIDEO
If you are on the FroKnowsPhoto Email list you will receive an Email which will include the PASSWORD to type into the Bonus VIDEO box.
