Edit this RAW file Week 14

Jared Polin February 22, 2011 20

This weeks RAW file is a well composed well exposed portrait in AMAZING light. But, there is one major issue that is unfortunate, it is not sharp. Somehow the focus was missed, instead of being on the eye it is somewhere on the rocks behind the model. I would be curious to know which focusing mode was used on this image to try and figure out why it was missed.

Non the less it is a great file to play with and edit and Greg and I came up with a few different edits. Which edit do you prefer. how would you edit it? Try your hand at editing this file from the Nikon D90 and see if there is a way to mask or work around the lack of focus. CLICK HERE to download the DNG file.

If you would like to submit a file please send one RAW file to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com By submitting a file you give FroKnowsPhoto the right to edit and allow others to download the file.

Edit this RAW file week 13

Jared Polin February 15, 2011 13

This week we chose a file from a Nikon D3100 that was taken with the Kit Lens. This is one of the rare times where I chose to go color and Greg decided to go with the black and white.

Which edit to you like better this week, Jared’s or Greg’s? Be sure to download the RAW file and upload your edit to the FORUM right HERE.

I would love to see some really nice portraits sent in to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com for us to edit. Make sure the subject line says Portrait to catch my attention. By submitting a photo you are allowing FroKnowsPhoto.com to edit and make available the RAW file for others to download.

Edit this RAW file Week 12

Jared Polin February 8, 2011 30

It is that time again where you get to EDIT another user submitted RAW FILE. This weeks file is a great landscape image that did pose some interesting dilemmas. Greg and I both ended up giving some corrective criticism as we noticed that the image was shot at 1250 ISO in bright day light which added some un needed noise to the sky.

How would you have edited this RAW file? CLICK HERE to download this weeks RAW file and show us what you got. I would be interested to see if someone tries to Ansel Adams this photo.

If you would like to submit a RAW file please e mail it to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com By submitting a RAW file you are giving FROKNOWSPHOTO.com the right to post this image as well as let others download and edit the file for educational purposes only.

Edit This RAW file Week 10

Jared Polin January 25, 2011 16

Have you ever wanted to edit a file from the D3, well now is your chance. I decided to upload a file from my an engagement session two years ago shot with the D3.

Greg and I both tried our hand at editing this file. I went one way and of course Greg went a different way. But I was really into Gregs edit this week as his color really popped and there was great depth in the image.

I would really love to see what you guys would do with this D3 RAW file. Do you notice anything different when editing a file from the D3 vs other cameras RAW files. Do you think you can do more or its about the same, leave a comment with your edit on the forum.

Edit this RAW file Week 9

Jared Polin January 18, 2011 21

For this weeks RAW edit we get a file from a camera that we do not see to often, a Fuji S3. The fuji DSLR’s were built off a Nikon D100 body but with a fuji sensor inside. These fuji sensors were known for being able to capture a huge range of tones in both highlights and shadows.

As you will see in the video Greg and I both had a little bit of trouble starting out to edit this file. I think that I was able to bring it out a little more this week than Greg but still was a little uneasy about my edit. One thing I did notice when sliding the “fill light” slider is how much data there actually was in the shadow area. This file may be the perfect file for your HDR guys out there.

You can download this weeks RAW file RIGHT HERE. I would love to see how you would edit this, will you edit it as an HDR or will you tweak it more like Greg and I?

IF you would like to submit a RAW file for us to edit please e mail it to froknowsphoto@gmail.com

Jared Polin January 11, 2011 17

It’s a TREE a TREE yea, now edit it. This type of RAW file I think is more up Greg’s alley for editing but you know me, I want to make every picture go BOOOM. With that said, I did make the picture go boom and as always Greg makes it go well whatever Greg usually makes it go.

I would love to see what you would do to this RAW file this week, CLICK HERE to get access to the RAW file over in the forum. Be sure to upload what you came up with along with the tweaks and edits you did.

Edit this Raw file Week 7

Jared Polin January 4, 2011 23

This is a prime example of how any camera even with the kit lens get capture a great RAW image. I mention RAW image there because I really think if this image was saved as a jpeg out of the camera it would have lost a lot of its ability to be tweaked properly.

Greg and I both were able to take this image to an interesting place. My edit looks a little more natural in my eyes this week where Greg’s takes a heavy hand on thickness. There are things I like about my edit as well as things I like about Greg’s edit.

Take a look at the video below to see how we both ended up with the final images. If you would like to submit an image you can do so by sending it to FroKnowsPhoto@gmail.com . (we do receive a lot of photos each week and we start from the oldest when selecting)

How would you have edited this file, CLICK HERE to get access to the RAW file in the FroForum. Have fun with the edit and be sure to post your results for everyone to see.
