RAW vs JPEG Side by Side Comparison
One of the most hotly contested debates in all of photography is “RAW vs JPEG”. Over the past week on FroKnowsPhoto.com I have taken all the JPEG shooters reasons for not shooting RAW and turned it around into reasons why you should be shooting RAW.

I have done a lot of talking on this matter but now its time to do more showing. What you will see in these two videos are actual samples of RAW + JPEG that were captured at the same time going head to head. There are overexposed and underexposed images as well as the “I got it right in the camera” JPEG vs RAW corrected comparisons.
I have uploaded the sample images to my flickr account. In the video I mentioned I would upload the jpeg files as they came out of the camera. For comparison sake the files that I made corrections to to compare against the RAW have been exported from lightroom in full-res.

Interview with Professional Photographer Rick Berk
This is an interview that I recorded with professional photographer Rick Berk. I met Rick in the late 90′s when I was just starting out shooting professional sports. I just received my first season credential to photograph the Philadelphia Flyers and Rick had been shoot them for a few years for a trading card company. I was 15 and really didn’t know what I was in for but Rick took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. Without photographers like him I would never had made down there.
There are some really great tips for photographers who are just starting out and looking to make money. Angles to use when shooting different events such as youth sports that translate to all aspects of photography.
We hit a ton of topics over this 45 min conversation. Stick with it, listen in pieces if you have but pay attention to his RAW vs JPEG comparison. Later in the interview Rick talks about a light house image that he captured in RAW and JPEG and you can really see the difference. The JPEG was captured in the most vibrant setting on the 5dMl2 and the RAW was processed in Lightroom.

I got to sit down for an “interview” with Ken Rockwell and talk about RAW vs JPEG. Well not exactly, I am still waiting on a response from Ken to have an open minded discussion about RAW and JPEG and get his take.

FIRE HOSE VS GARDEN HOSE VS KEN ROCKWELL
This video is kicking off RAW vs Jpeg vs Ken Rockwell week on FroKnowsPhoto.com
Would you try putting out a fire with a garden hose if you had access to a FIRE HOSE? That is like saying I am going to shoot JPEG when I have a D3X or for that matter any camera that shoots RAW.
Did you throw out your negatives when you got them back and just keep the 4×6 to make all future prints? I certainly hope not as you would be left with not such a great file to make prints.
This is just the start of the week, there is so much more on the way.
