D3000 Project – Reformatting your Memory Card

Jared Polin June 25, 2010 5

Where do you reformat your memory card, in the computer or in the camera?

You should be formatting your card every time you put it into your DSLR camera without fail. You want to do it in your camera and not the computer so that the card and camera talk to each other better.

I was wondering why my 8GB SD card only showed 5.8GB free when there where no pictures on it. Then I took your advice and reformatted the card, now there’s 7.94GB free!

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve taken the leap and changed my camera settings to only record RAW images now. You’ve converted me!
