A guide to "Capturing Motion" in low light situations

Photo of the Week - Ted Leonsis

This weeks photo of the week comes from Yanik Silver’s Underground 7 event where I captured this photo of Ted Leonsis with the Nikon D7000. Ted is the owner of the Washington Capitals and Wizards and help start AOL back in the 90’s.

I have had the D7000 for some time now and wanted to do a comparison between it and the D3s at the same ISO and settings. I will be doing a side by side comparison in the future but I will say it holds up well against a camera that is $4k more but it definitely doesn’t match its quality, yet. You can download the FULL RES jpeg by clicking the image below.

I felt that this was one of those almost perfect shots and wanted to share it with all of you. The reason say its almost perfect is the way that it is composed, there is nothing cut off from left to right and there is the right amount of headroom in my mind. The exposure is right on and so is the focus while shooting with the Nikon 300 2.8 AFS. The one little thing that stands out for me is the hand at the bottom of the frame. If the hand was not there it would be that much better.

Does the hand bother you in this image?
