All my gear got stolen.... in my dream last night
Do you ever have those dreams that seem so real that when you wake up you are freaked out? Last night I had a dream that all my gear was stolen and it scared the crap out of me. But luckily I woke up and it was just a dream.
Luckily for me I have insurance on all of my gear but I also use a FREE App called Lenstag to store serial numbers of all my gear. I personally know the owner of lens tag and he is a one man band. It is really easy to set up. Sit down with your gear and your phone. Enter the model number, serial number and take a photo of the serial number. That’s pretty much it, the app will verify your gear against the entire lenstag database to make sure it has not been entered yet. I personally enter my laptops, microphones, camera bags and other accessories so there is a record of it.
Wether you have insurance or not please take the proactive approach and enter your gear into lenstag so you can have a little piece of mind incase something does happen. Also, if you are going to purchase used gear be sure to search the serial number in google before buying it. If a lens from lenstag has been reported as stolen it will be indexed on google and instantly be searchable from around the world.
