Holiday Shopping Guide
Guess what, it is that time of year again. The time of year where everyone is looking for the best deal on anything and everything. I wanted to create the FroKnowsPhoto holiday buying guide for photographers and people looking for gifts for photographers. Let’s just jump right into the wish list of toys for photographers this holiday season.
If you like to shop at Mom and Pop stores feel free to call Allen’s Camera 215.547.2841 He is a fully stocked Nikon and Canon authorized dealer with huge inventory. Be sure to ask for the FRO PRICE.
Show it off…I SHOOT RAW!
The perfect gift for all photographers is an I Shoot RAW t-shirt or hoodie along with a Mine’s a 2.8 how big is yours shirt.
If you are having trouble deciding what to get for that special someone you can always pick up an AMAZON gift card and let them decide for themselves.
Nikon Cameras
For those looking to get their first Digital SLR my pick is the Nikon D3100 and for a killer lens add the Nikon 35mm F1.8 Lens.
If you are more advanced and looking to step up from an older DSLR the best camera around right now is the Nikon D7000 body only.
Canon Cameras
For you Canon shooters out there, if you are looking to upgrade from an older rebel the Canon T2i, 60D or 7D are nice cameras that will take all of your lenses
.
Storage and Transfer
Don’t forget every photographer could use more memory cards, either SD or CF cards. I prefer the Sandisk or Lexar 8gig – 16gig class 6 or 10 SD cards and the Extreme 3 or higher CF cards. It is always a good idea to have extra cards around just in case you end up taking a lot of photos and videos.
If you are shooting more photos that means you need more storage! Pickup some extra hard drives for backups or photo archives.
A great gift for any photographer is a card reader from Sandisk or Lexar. Both make really fast USB 2.0 card readers that will save time on transfers to the computer.
Bags & Straps
We all seem to hate camera straps, those uncomfortable neck killing, falling off your shoulder wastes of unpadded fabric. Well there now is a solution that I use and its called the Black Rapid Strap. I own the RS-7, RS-1 and the brand new RS-Sport. Once you try one of these straps you will never go back to the stock camera strap again.
Bags, don’t get me started on bags, there is not one bag to replace them all. Instead we all end up with a lot of bags that all serve a purpose. I can just tell you what I own let you decide what works best for you. I currently use bags from ThinkTank Photo. For everyday shooting at events like weddings and concerts I use the Retrospective 30. If you do not have as much gear as me the Retrospective 20 would be a great solution. When Greg and I are traveling with a lot of gear we use ThinkTank Airport International and Airport Security rolling bags. They both fit into the overhead compartments for flying in the US. I just fell in love with the Sling-O-Matic 20 as a great bag for when I am going to be walking a ton and only want to cary 3 or 4 pro lenses with my body. I really love this bag!!!!
Canon, Nikon and Sigma Glass
We all want more glass, here are my favorite lenses for both Nikon and Canon.
Stocking Stuffer!
If you are having trouble deciding what to get for that special someone you can always pick up an AMAZON gift card and let them decide for themselves.
If you are now SHOOTING RAW you definitely will want to take a look at Adobe Lightroom 3.0 as that is pretty much the standard for the industry and what I use.
