A guide to "Capturing Motion" in low light situations

Fuji X-Pro 1 First Impressions

Holy guacamole! Just did my first shoot with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and wow am I impressed! Thankfully, I received my copy just after Fuji released the latest firmware update which even further improves focusing. Having been an avid Fuji X100 shooter, I’ve grown accustomed to the quirky nature of the beast and slow focusing, however the X-Pro 1 is nimble by comparison.

Such a great handling camera with intuitive dials and button layout that makes for rather quick handling. Sure, there is a learning curve, but for the first time out of the gate, I found myself very confidently shooting with it. Feels great in the hands and the viewfinder is bright and huge.

I shot some backstage photos for a lingerie fashion show. Yea, I know, rough going for me ;). All shot with natural light, so I bumped up the ISO to 3200 and the images were sharp and crunchy. Lots of contrast and even good color! I love the color the Fuji sensors produce. Has such a natural look, very film-like and just feels right. I shot only with the 35mm f/1.4 and can say I was very happy with how fast it focused and how tack-sharp my images are. Even shooting at f/2 the images are super-sharp.

I’m just getting started using this new camera system and can say that it’s a pure joy. Everything about it, from the handling, to shooting, to the image quality. I haven’t even begun to add flash to the mix, but lets just say that it won’t be long!
