Off-camera flash balancing Ambient Light
So much about flash photography is creating a scene – determining which elements of your frame you want to have exposed and how you want the exposure to be balanced.
in this video, I demonstrate balancing the background’s ambient exposure to reveal details pertinent to creating the right scene for an environmental portrait, then dialing in light for my subject using one off-camera flash.
This is just an example of balancing ambient light with your flash. You can go for other creative effects by either blowing out the background or darkening it – depending on what look you’re going for. This time, I wanted to expose for the details outside of the window before I brought in flash and even got lucky with a nice reflection of my subject in the window while avoiding the reflection of the flash and umbrella.
